About Plasterboard
Plasterboard is an inexpensive, lightweight and strong building board widely used in residential construction. Plasterboard is made up of gypsum hemihydrate plaster enclosed between two pieces of paper-backed cardboard, providing a smooth finish when skimmed with plaster. It is available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, depending on the application – thicker plasterboards are more suitable for walls and ceilings than thinner ones. Plasterboard is resistant to fire damage, mildew growth and sound transmission, making it an ideal material for creating interior walls and ceilings. Plasterboard can easily be cut with a saw or power tool such as an electric jigsaw to create window or door openings. Plasterboard can also be attached to wood and metal framing structures, providing an effective sheathing layer or cladding support system.
